We operate this program at Dr. Freda Miller School in the two classrooms.  We are licensed for 60 out of School Care children and 20 Kindergarten children. We offer care before/after school, early dismissals and most PD days.  We lease from Calgary Board of Education that stipulates in our lease agreement that we are not permitted to operate during December break , July and August.

Our business hours are 7:00am - 9:00am and 3:50pm - 6:00 pm Monday - Thursday and Friday from 7:00am - 9:00am and 1:20pm - 6:00 pm.  On full days we are open from 7:00am - 6:00 pm.

This program is a permanent set up.  We operate out of two classrooms where learning centres such as; art, library, block/building, dramatic, manipulative, games and large motor areas are displayed.  Our goal is to make it as home like as possible and to be reflective of the children who are attending.  Children are given ample opportunities to demonstrate leadership skills and are supported in a child lead atmosphere where learning takes place based on their interests.

If you have any questions about this location or would like to register please feel free to call.

Jeannie Shin - Program Coordinator

I was born and raised in South Korea and moved to Canada in 2013. I graduated from Bow Valley College's ELCC course diploma in 2016, and have been a member of Seeds Of SPICE' family since 2015.

It has been a long-time dream of me and my husband to live in a foreign country with permanent residency. Having accomplished this in Canada, I am now living with the utmost happiness.

The ELCC course I chose for a new start in a new country is currently giving me the greatest reward. My team is always brainstorming to provide quality programs for our children and parents, while at the same time, DFM team is turning the children's ideas into projects.

The Educators of SEEDS of S.P.I.C.E., are very thankful for the space that they have. With a pond and baseball field right behind the centre, and Fish Creek Park right next to the school, they are getting the children to engage in programs that make our children more open and willing to try new things with nature. Let us see how our children’s learning takes place in those places that offers new adventures to them every time they visit.

After continued request we set out to explore the Fish Creek Park. There we found a bunch of logs that were in a shape of a square. L said, “This is the fort I made with my dad, can we go play S?” She replied, “yes, you can”. All the children started running towards it and climbing the logs. Each of them took turns climbing and walking across the logs. They walked around and were deciding what to do next. M saw a log on the ground and said, “Lets build a fort” to the other children. Most of all helped each other by bringing logs over to the fort and placing on top of other logs.

Our children explore nature and their surroundings and learn to work as a team, communicate to each other, and help when needed to achieve a goal. We give them an opportunity to climb trees and provided some risky play within a controlled safe environment. Through that, they become more attentive in risky environments, learnt from their mistakes, kept trying even if they might not be able to do it, and ask for help when needed.

As well, the children build confidence as they conquer their fears and will be more inclined to take more risks. Giving children opportunities to go beyond their physical limits can teach children to know what they are capable of.
