Dalhousie - 5505 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB

We are licensed for 80 kindergarten and Out of School Care children at this location.  We offer care before/after school, early dismissals and most PD days.  Since our program is running at its own location, we are able to operate during school breaks (I.e. Fall break, Winter Break) as well as summer break.

Our business hours are 7:00am - 6:00 pm Monday - Friday. Children will be picked up and dropped off at their school for their applicable bell times through Southland bussing.

Staff are innovative and creative when they set up this program into learning centres such as; art, library, block/building, dramatic, manipulative, games and large motor areas.  Our goal is to make it as home like as possible and to be reflective of the children who are attending.  Children are given ample opportunities to demonstrate leadership skills and are supported in a child lead atmosphere where learning takes place based on their interests.

As stated in Flight: Alberta Child Care Framework, we believe that children are capable, and mighty learners and the educators’ role is to be a co-learner, co-imaginer, and co-researcher.

Our program planning begins with the children’s interests. Something as simple as a child’s love for drawing can grow into a drawing club, an art sale, a book club, and so much more.

We carefully observe children’s interests, needs, and abilities, and use these observations to thoughtfully set up daily provocations. As children move through their learning journey, we follow their lead, supporting their ideas and extending their play in meaningful ways.

Our goal is to build a community at Dalhousie where children feel safe and explore the world together. Family involvement is essential for creating places of vitality, and we invite families for a variety of events such as art sale, field trip volunteers, bottle donations for fundraising, flea market, and for special guest speakers.

If you have any questions about this location or would like to register please feel free to call.

Megan Jean Woodhurst - Program Coordinator

Hello!

My name is Megan Woodhurst, my good friends call me MJ.

I have worked in childcare since 2012 and have always been passionate about creating meaningful connections with children and their families. During my career, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to work in Reggio Emilia-inspired programs which deepened my belief in the importance of exploration. I believe children are not unfinished adults waiting to become whole; they are already complete individuals, worthy of respect and belonging exactly as they are in each moment of their growth.

I feel truly honoured each time parents choose to trust us with their cherished children and value the relationships built through that trust.

I joined Seeds of SPICE in 2023 and love incorporating nature, creativity, and open-ended experiences into our program every day.

I strongly believe in our team, our shared values, and the supportive environment we create together for the children and families in our community.
